Salat Al-Kusoof and The Solar Eclipse

Monday, August 21, 2017, the community in Birmingham along with millions of others in North America, gathered to witness a near total solar eclipse.

In the Homewood Masjid,  joined behind Imam Sameh Asal, IAA students and community members performed Salat Al-Kusoof as a reminder of Allah’s majesty and power.  They also listened to a khutbah by Imam Sameh, that explained how the Prophet viewed the eclipse and the larger message to take away from such a remarkable occurrence.

IAA students were equipped with special viewing glasses to observe the moon passing in front of the sun, and prior to the event IAA teachers worked enthusiastically to properly inform the students of the importance of this historic and breathtaking event. The IAA Science Department demonstrated the education behind the solar eclipse, while the IAA Islamic Department explained the Islamic approach and significance of the event.
